A 4-minute news summary produced by the Canadian Salt + Light Catholic television network is now available on the Internet. The network launched the newscast "Zoom" on its Web page Wednesday. Salt + Light billed it as the first daily Catholic Webcast.

Father Thomas Rosica, founder and executive director of the Toronto-based Salt + Light Media Foundation, said the launch of "Zoom" on Jan. 24, the feast of St. Francis de Sales, patron saint of journalists, was "the perfect day to launch this service, which will allow people to follow the rhythm of the Church in image and sound."

The newscast, which began in September 2004, covers events in life of the Church at a national and international level.

Through Salt + Light's satellite feed to Vatican Television, "Zoom" also provides footage from the Holy Father's weekly Sunday Angelus and Wednesday's general audience addresses, as well as special events and apostolic trips.

The free news service is available in English and French at www.saltandlighttv.org from Monday through Friday.  www.Zenit.org ZE07012625
