I mentioned on the radio that Jesus was stripped of his garments on the cross which was part of the whole aspect of crucifixion — the utter degradation and humiliation of the person and to strike fear in the heart of all observers.

A gentleman wrote to object to my assertion that Jesus was naked on the cross — so I provided this short answer. You can my article HERE.

PS. Here is a statue of a naked Christ on the cross sculpted by Michelangelo:

Well said Steve, and yes, I too believe Jesus was crucified naked. The Romans were very cruel and had the punishments of scourging and crucifixion down to an artform. I have also read that the cloth as shown on most crucifixes is Mary’s mantle that was wrapped around him?

STEVE RAY HERE: Deacon Mitch. Thanks for writing. Mary’s mantle? I am not aware of that. If it is, it is pious sentiment and a holy objective. But, even though I am sure Mary was pained by his nakedness, the Romans are not going to let a woman intrude on their domain. Mary had no authority with the Romans and they would certainly have no regard for her. God bless my friend.
