Put up your hands!

I’ve heard some dumb things lately but this one takes the cake. With all due respect to Catholic Cardinals some some can say pretty dumb things. Unless this was reported incorrectly (and I find it hard to believe this cardinal would really say something like this), or I completely misunderstand his meaning, this is one case in point.

I suppose we should throw down my gun and throw up my hands when a man is raping my wife?  Or I should put my hands in my pockets when a brute is kidnapping my daughters?

Here is what the cardinal said as reported by Catholic World News:

In an interview with the Italian monthly Famiglia Cristiana , which will appear this week on Italian newsstands, Cardinal Martino argues: “To respond to terrorism and violence with another form of violence begins a perverse spiral.”

Rather than responding with armed force to terrorists, Cardinal Martino said that world powers should promote disarmament. In fact, he said, “If we do not go ahead with disarmament, peace will be disarmed.”

Cardinal Martino– who was in New York on September 11, 2001, serving as the Vatican’s representative at the UN– last week referred to the worldwide struggle against terrorism as a “Fourth World War.” But he insisted that the war should not be fought by military means.

The cardinal said that the fight against terrorism should be carried out through the defense of “law in general, and human rights in particular.” He did not explain how those rights were to be protected, nor how disarmed states could defend themselves against armed terrorists.

So let’s ask ourselves: Should our nation disarm when this little guy below and his radical Muslim buddies are out to get everyone who doesn’t agree with them? You tell me! And tell the victims released from Nazi Concentration Camps that the free world should disarm to make the terrorists feel better about themselves. And ask the families of the World Trade Center victims.
