Obama appointee to Justice department sought to silence bishops on abortion

The US Senate judiciary committee has postponed a vote on the nomination of Dawn Johnsen to head the Office of Legal Counsel at the Justice department. Johnsen’s nomination by President Obama has encountered opposition from Catholic leaders who point to her involvement in a bid to strip the tax-exempt status of the Catholic Church if bishops continued to voice their opposition to legal abortion.
