We drove two hours to get up near the area of Omaha Beach. In a small country town we found a lovely old church that was quaint and beautiful. They rang the bells for 10 minutes to welcome us.
We had time to eat and shop in Arromanches where the British and Canadians came up the beach on D-Day. We saw the maritime remains of the greatest artificial port ever created.
Then the Normandy American Cemetery with over 9,000 graves of American soldiers who lost their lives during the invasion that day – June 6, 1944.
Then we walked along Omaha Beach with a beautiful rainbow smiling down upon us. This is the most famous of the Normandy landing beaches and the most difficult in 1944.
Toured the amazing Château du Breuil for Calvados for tasting many varieties of their apple brandy. Returned to our Belle-Isle-sur-Risle Chateau for another elegant French meal and overnight.
