In response I said, “Who are you and why do you need to speak with me?” I ended up meeting Alex Jones by phone that night. We had lunch together on the following Wednesday. As a Pentecostal preacher in Detroit Michigan he was studying the worship patterns of the early Church and was struck by the Church Fathers.
He had heard that I had converted from Evangelical Protestantism to the Catholic Church. He said he didn’t know anyone else who had done that and wanted to talk with me. (Read the story on Ignatius Insight).
We became very good friends. My wife was Donna’s sponsor into the Catholic Church and I wrote the Preface to his book “No Price Too High.” My only regret is that our lives were both so busy that we have not seen much of them over the last few years. He was ministering to several parishes in Detroit and traveling the world speaking. You can see his website here. His short biography is here.

I was told he had trouble breathing on Saturday. The doctors discovered he had no white blood cells, an indication he may have had a previously undetected leukemia. He had several heart attacks Saturday and died around 10:30 PM. I hope I am correct in all that but don’t know more. I’m told Donna and his family is all together and doing well in the Lord.
I don’t know the funeral arrangements or plans. When I find out I will update this page with the information.

I remember meeting him and watching the DVD. We are saddened by his passing, but like you, we look forward to laughing and recalling many memories when we meet in heaven.
Wow! I did not know. Nothing in the local Detroit papers as yet. I spent time and lunch with Alex and had him tell his story to my parish. What an incredible story. God bless him and his family.
My heart is saddened by this news. The first time I ever heard the Alex Jones story was from Steve at a men’s conference in Oklahoma about seven years ago (before my conversion to the Church). Later, I made a point to acquire Deacon Jones’ book and CDs, and even got to meet him during a mission talk he gave in Texas. I was hoping to have many more years and more opportunities to learn from this man’s wisdom, but I am grateful for the work he did. His courage and thirst for truth have been inspirational to me over the years, and quite influential in my own conversion.
May God welcome him into His eternal kingdom.
Oh, I have been wondering about Alex Jones lately! I remember hearing him speak at the Catholic Family conference in California over 10 years ago….and getting us all to sing My God is An Awesome God! His conversion story is also awesome! I’ll never forget, when he was talking about the perpetual virginity of Our Lady, he asked if any men there were in Joseph’s position, would they touch a woman who conceived by the Holy Spirit and held God in her womb? He made so much sense! and had so much joy, I remember thinking, as a new convert myself, that it was a shame we all didn’t have a pentecostal background of shouting and singing for joy at what we have!

Anyone reading Steve’s article today, Alex Jones book is worth the purchase price as it is a very interesting book to read. (And Steve’s also)
We pray for his eternal soul bc unlike Protestants we know purgatory exists and St Teresa of Avila spent time there for not making the sign of the cross well. Let’s not be like Protestants. Pray for souls of our deceased brothers and sisters
I live in Australia and two years ago I had the opportunity to listen Deacon Alex Jones testimony through YouTube, I’m so sad to find out that he has passed away, Even though , I haven’t met him personally I feel he is my brother in Christ , part of our beautiful Catholic Church, through him and also through steve Ray, Scott Hahn I’ve learnt to value and love dearly my family: The Catholic Church . Thank you God bless you all !!!

My mom & I met Deacon Jones in Jan or Feb of 2013 at a Marianne Conference in St Louis, wonderful man & speech.
We will be praying & offering up Rosarys & Masses for him & his family.

I met Deacon Alex and Steve Ray when they both visited Australia together in 2010. That was a great and exciting time for many of the faithful in Australia. I trust that Deacon Alex has now gone to his eternal reward for his love and service of the truth. Steve – hopefully we will see you back in Australia again one day. God bless!
I never met him, but I loved Alex Jones. His testimony was such a gift.I always loved hearing him or watching his testimony on video because he truly believed and rejoiced in God. He had the incredible courage to follow God wherever he found him. Our Catholic Church truly was blessed by Alex Jones. Steve- I can tell that you made a great difference in his life. May you also continue to enjoy wonderful memories about Alex. Thank you for being such a positive friend in his life. Lately I’ve been reminded that we cannot wait to enjoy the incredibly wonderful people in our lives because we don’t know when they will leave us to be with God. I’ll gladly pray for his soul and for his beautiful wife.

Alex was a great man of God and a man who listened to God call no matter where it lead him and his family.
He spoke at our annual men’s conference in Essex Ontario and did a parish mission here as well as several other parishes in our area. He was always on fire with God’s word and how he responded to it when he felt God calling him to the Catholic Church and how he left all behind. When i first heard Alex say those words many years ago I felt I was listening to Peter and how he walked away from everything to follow Christ.
These last couple of years have been difficult loosing some of my heroes in my faith journey. Father Benedict, Mother Angelica, Father Mike Scanlan and now Deacon Alex. The rest of us have some pretty good slack to take up. I am sure they are all praying for us all now more than ever!!! Rest in peace Brother and God Bless your family on their great loss.

I only learned of Deacon Alex’s conversion story yesterday. I came back to search the internet to see if the church granted his desire to become a priest.
I’m happy to see he became a deacon and continued to do amazing work.
I’m sad to see Deacon Alex has finished his race on earth.
To those who loved Dcn Alex, know his legacy is still going on and touching people like myself.
I’ve just known about Deacon Alex Jones and his conversion story recently – I was on YouTube and saw some excerpts of a documentary about him. I Googled him to see if I could buy the entire documentary and saw he passed away in 2017. I was so heartbroken to find this out, but wow, what an amazing conversion and life he led. I will share his story (and yours, Steve – I’ve lent out my Crossing the Tiber book to my husband – please help me pray for his conversion!) to all who will hear it!
