Peace be with you! As you have probably heard, there is a great effort underway in Washington DC to have the House pass the Senate version of the health care reform bill by the end of this week.
As explained on the website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the Senate version requires the use of federal funds to help subsidize and promote health plans that cover elective abortions.
Although the U.S. Catholic Bishops have long been supporters of health care reform, they steadfastly oppose any reform that puts at even greater risk the most vulnerable members of society, the unborn, by providing federal funding of elective abortions.
If you have not already done so, please contact your Congressional representative to express your opposition to the current Senate bill. You can send a pre-written, instant e-mail to Congress by going to www.usccb.org/action. You may also call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at: 202-224-3121, or call your Members’ local offices. Contact information for your representative and senators can be found on their web sites at www.house.gov & www.senate.gov. For more information about the Bishops’ position on health care reform, go to www.usccb.org/healthcare/.

Association spent over $1 million lobbying on health-care reform

The Catholic Health Association (CHA) spent over $1 million on lobbying in 2009 as the group pushed for passage of health-care reform legislation.
If it deserves Abp. Naumann’s attention, it certainly deserves ours
Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City KS has called out Sister Carol Keehan, Chief Executive of the “Catholic Health Association” for providing “cover for any member of the House who chooses to buckle under the pressure of the President and the Democratic leadership to accept government funding of abortion”, calling Sister Carol’s actions “either incredibly naive or disingenuous”.
But I want to raise a further point: To whom exactly is the “Catholic Health Association” accountable in the first place? See: http://www.canonlaw.info/2010/03/if-it-deserves-abp-naumanns-attention.html
