Catholic Answers Live: “What Did the Early Church Look Like?”

What Did the Early Church Look Like? To listen on-line click HERE. To download as a podcast, click HERE

We started the show by discussing the early Church – how it was like and unlike the Church today. We discussed the theology and practice of the first Christians and how we know they were Catholics.

Questions I Answered:

1. Did the Early Church follow Christ or a religion?
2. What are the differences between the early Catholic and early Orthodox churches?
3. How did the early Christians know about the Trinity?
4. Can you list the apostolic churches that still exist today?
5. Are Episcopalians Protestant?
6. Are there any Eucharistic Miracles older the Lanciano?
7. What is the difference between baptism in the Name of Jesus and baptism in the Name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit?
8. Are their Protestants who claim someone else, other than Jesus, started the Catholic Church?
9. Did the early Church resemble the Neo-catechumenal way?

Excellent responses Ray. One thing I thought about though, when you said, “how can THEY think that way…” When, we should say, “why did WE think that way?”

You came to the Church and I came back to the Church. So, we once believed many errors. Perhaps we might get more insight into how to respond to those who still hold those errors if we try to figure out why we found those errors believable.

    What do you think?

    hey Steve

i was really intrigued by your talk on Baptism when you came to India. what stood out was the fact that Baptism needs to have Water and The Holy Spirit. however i havent really understood the concept of Baptism in the Acts of the Apostles chapter 8 where it says the people of Samaria where Baptized in the name of Jesus by Philip ‘after’ which Peter and John on hearing about the baptism when down to Samaria to Pray for the descent of the Holy Spirit. my question is this – why did the Holy SPirit not descend during their Baptism but rather need Peter and John to come and pray again???
