Today is a BIG day for fans of St. Paul (like me). The pope is declaring this is the Year of St. Paul — starting today, June 28.

We are prepared with our DVD Paul, Contending for the Faith and a pilgrimage we are planning through six countries to follow the Footprints of Paul.

Pope will proclaim a year dedicated to St. Paul

Vatican, Jun. 21, 2007 (www.CWNews.com) – Pope Benedict XVI (bionews) will proclaim a year dedicated to the memory of St. Paul, beginning on June 28, the Vatican liturgical office has announced.

The Pope will inaugurate a year devoted to the "Apostle to the Gentiles," marking the 2000th anniversary of his birth, at a Vespers at the Roman basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. The service will be held on June 28, the eve of the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul.

In our DVD "Paul, Contending for the Faith" we asserted that Paul was born about AD 8. I concluded that Paul was probably born about the time Jesus was questioning the Doctors of the Law at 12 years old. He was born around 4 BC (since King Herod died in 4 BC). That would make Paul's birth in 8 AD, and now we are 2000 years later. Bravo St. Paul!
