If marriage is not defined and and protected in a society as a man and a woman in an exclusive and matrimonial relationship with the view to procreating children and being a family — then all relationships can be called a family and any combination of persons (or…) can be called a “marriage.”
Modern, politically correct people ask, “Who has the right to tell me who I love? Does the government really think it can tell me how many people I can be married to or who I sleep with?”
We currently have laws that forbid polygamy, but how long do you think they will last now that the word “marriage” has become a fluid, changing and all-encompassing? Polygamy laws will be deemed repressive and discriminatory, violating the civil rights of people in love. Polygamy (bad context) will be changed to something like “polymarriage” or “polyamory” (good sounding).
What’s next?
Fifty years ago no one would have dreamed “marriage” could ever be defined as anything other than one man and one woman. What will we be accepting in another fifty years? Incest – a family affair? Pedophilia? Who is to deny a man the love of his intended fixation? There is already a Man-Boy Love Association.
Mabe bestiality? Do you know there are already over 100,000 who practice bestiality in Germany alone? Bestiality brothels are taking Germany by storm. Some countries are banning bestiality, not because it is wrong but because it is violating the rights of animals. But in the long run there will be push for legal relationships, even marriages with non-human lovers? What are the limits if “everything is OK for consenting…”
Enough of that.
Our world is going crazy. Get rid of God and Christian morality and everything is OK. As Dostoevsky has one of his character say in Brothers Karamazov, “If God does not exist, everything is permitted.”
If we as Christians do what we must — stand for sanity, truth, natural law and morality — we will be called bigots and haters. We are already deemed as such for speaking out against abortion, homosexuality and “gay marriage.” We will pay the price for our faithfulness to God, the Scriptures and the infallible teaching of the Church.
Hold on to your hats my friends. We in America — we are in for an interesting ride.
Excuse me, I have to go to church now. I am going to pray for my grandchildren.

If America and the West in general do not rediscover Judeo-Christian morality, then I fully expect the whole thing to come crashing down like a house of cards. But I love what America has stood for and has promised to be, and it saddens me to see a country I served for many, many years, on moral life-support. God help America. Please.
my own family seems to think I’m being an alarmist. Bud not speaking out now is a definite direction towards complete ungodliness. At that moment it would be better to be ruled by ISIS than the perversions of hedonism. God help us.
Padre Peter – if you are so concerned with the direction of America and it’s duty to put a stop to all things non-Christian, then I propose you move to a country founded on Christian principals. Our founding fathers were escaping religious persecution when they founded America – not furthering it!!! Your argument against two consenting adults right to marry is appalling. Judging is a right reserved only for God!…or have you read your bible that far?!?

STEVE RAY HERE: I think your complaint was with me not with Fr. Peter. I’m the one who put up this post. I do have to take issue with a few of the comments. Of course we have to judge. The Bible is full of the fact that we need to judge and make decisions between good and evil, right and wrong. Even your email address shows you judge: It is “Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve”. To take Jesus’s comment out of context shows somebody else hasn’t read the Bible very well. St. Paul says we are to examine and judge all things and choose that which is good.
Regarding American history, our founding fathers left England to avoid being forced to join the church of England and pay their exorbitant taxes. They did not leave to escape religion but to have the freedom of religion and the freedom to live their Faith without England dictating what church that had to attend and support. Catholics left Europe so they could freely exercise their faith and practice the Catholic faith in the new land. It was not freedom from religion but freedom FOR religion. The founding fathers would’ve been aghast at the immoral climate of America today.
I did not say that because gay marriage comes into existence that allows all the other things to become acceptable, though it certain helps. The point is that there’s a moral decline in America and when one dominoe fall it affects the next one. When one unthinkable thing becomes thinkable, then the next unthinkable thing is easier to swallow. And it’s not whether someone can do something with another consenting adult in their own home that’s the problem, the problem is when I becomes enshrined in our laws and those who oppose perversion and immorality are considered bigots and haters.
Eve: You could not be more wrong! Please do some research or at least read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America. I also recommend a non-revisionist history book.
Eve hate to disagree with you but this article is not wrong. We have opened a big bag of worms and it is going to get much worse. 3 couples living together will be one of the demands people want as well as sister/brother, father/daughter, mother/son and any other combination one would want. As for the ISIS they will want man with 5 wives but will kill a woman who want to have 4 husbands. America was founded on Religious Freedom but it also had marriage as a man and a woman, not one man with 5 wives. Sadly America is being destroyed day by day and our Religious Freedom is going down the drain because many are working overtime to bury the Catholic/Christian religion as well as bury the 10 Commandments which taught us love and reverence, respect and reverence for God, ourselves and each other. We don’t have that anymore. As for making judgments between right and wrong if we can’t tell the difference between right and wrong we should empty out every prison because no one should be there since nothing is wrong. People us that “do not judge” all the time and that is the only saying they use that Jesus said, but they forget that Jesus also told her to go and sin no more. Thus, Jesus judged that what she was doing was wrong. We know that God will judge the actions of all of us in the next world. Here on Earth when we have Judges who decide what is right and wrong and sadly in this generation the Judges have made a lot of wrong decision in the minds of many of us. It started with allowing people to kill their own flesh and blood be it babies, disabled or elderly and now they have opened the gates for sodomy to be not only accepted but also watched or should I say thrown into the faces of everyone. There was a time when people would keep the door to the bedroom closed. Now it is everywhere, on TV, in the newspapers, commercials and soon will be on billboards opening the doors for more abuse of women and children and even men because it appears that instead of bringing the men up to the level of women they have bought women down to the level of men. Many have become worse than animals with only thoughts of inhuman acts instead of living as human beings made in the image of God.
Well-intentioned post, Steve, but it missed the mark, methinks. Remember that protecting an institution begins at home, among the private citizenry. What would the no-fault divorce revolution beginning in the ’70s have ever amounted to, if the average unhappy housewife had resoundingly said “NO” to the forbidden fruit offered to her? The anti-Christian feminists who so hate the West and its traditions, and worked to get those liberal divorce laws passed, would have been left pounding sand in frustration.
Padre, pray tell, what is “Judeo-Christian” morality? From what I have learned about the Pharisaic religion of the Talmud, that term has been a contradiction in terms ever since the Fall of Jerusalem. How about our CHRISTIAN morality? I’ll join you in that endeavour, my friend. Also, I have to take exception to your love-fest of patriotism which our country does not really deserve from her citizens of the Catholic persuasion. We should no more love our country than Roman Christians loved the Rome of Julian the Apostate. The Church ordered Roman Christians under Julian’s imperial administration to obey the call of duty to go to war for him. That was the extent of their patriotism. We Americans are in a very similar position. We live in a country whose Founding Fathers were pagans, Unitarians, and deists, and it was their Protestant love of secular government which laid the groundwork for the secularization of the American people. Let it be made clear: we ARE Americans. That means we should love our American land. And our American family, friends, and neighbors. And we should render unto our American Caesar whatever is his. But it ought to stop at that.
