My mom and dad at 80 years old; now they are in their 90's

Dear Mom and Dad:

While reading today on a plane 35,000 feet over Texas I was touched deeply by a passage from Scripture. This is not in your Protestant Bible but it is in our Catholic Bible. I thought you’d like it.

Sirach 3:12-15 “My son, take care of your father when he is old; grieve him not as long as he lives. 13 Even if his mind fail, be considerate with him; revile him not in the fullness of your strength.  For kindness to a father will not be forgotten, it will serve as a sin offering—it will take lasting root.  In time of tribulation it will be recalled to your advantage, like warmth upon frost it will melt away your sins.”

Sirach 7:27-28 “With your whole heart honor your father; your mother’s birthpangs forget not.  Remember, of these parents you were born; what can you give them for all they gave you?”

Me (left with younger brothers Christmas 1964

Mom and Dad: I thank you for giving me birth. Bless you for your generosity and long-suffering in raising me (and my siblings). All five kids thank you!

I thank you for not buying into the evil of abortion but for valuing life and for paying the price — giving of yourselves heart and soul.

You are great parents and my whole family, all 20 of us, love you and thank you.
