Coronavirus Stalks in the Darkness, But Do Not Be Afraid

“You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.” (Psalm 91:5-6)
Msgr. Charles Pope

Also, read my son-in-law Ben Brown’s article here:  “ARE MASKS WORTH THE RISK?” or “A CULTURE OF SAFETY-ISM”

I write this from my perspective as a priest responsible for the care of souls; I do not claim to be a medical expert. My pastoral concern is that we as a nation and as a Church have succumbed to excessive fear, which bespeaks a spiritual problem. The medical concerns arising from the pandemic are not without merit, but they are not unprecedented. What is unique today is the collective paralysis brought on by this fear. I write to express my concern and to reiterate the constant biblical cry, “Do not be afraid!”

Prediction: Right after the election (when the Democrats no longer need fear of Covid-19 to try to sink the economy), the panic-mongering will rapidly decline, and things will start to open up.

STEVE RAY HERE: You are absolutely correct Bill. This is all politically and financially driven. The media and the Democratic party are in bed together. And sadly, even most good-willed and Catholic people have stumbled into bed with them.

I was wondering whether anybody has any statistics about how many cases of Wuhan coronavirus have been traced to Mass, and especially to Communion.

I’ve seen an article that says that churches are responsible for 650 cases of coronavirus.

    650. Out of how many total cases? And that’s all churches, not Catholic ones.

Msgr. Pope says so eloquently what I have been trying to tell people: fear is the tool of the devil; stop letting it control you. That was my message to my confirmation class when we were forced to suspend classes in April (yet another tragedy), in the words of the Great Pope St. John Paul II: "Do not be afraid. Do not be satisfied with mediocrity. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch. I plead with you – never, ever give up on hope, never doubt, never tire, and never become discouraged. Be not afraid."

STEVE RAY HERE: Absolutely Justin. Thanks!

I’m concerned (to say the least) for what is happening today. I would say it doesn’t surprise me, that which is the “world’s” response – it is more so the church’s. I feel so many of the men called to be Shepherds are not leading. Instead they are being led by the very people looking to undermine them, and render them “non essential”. As the article so eloquently stated, we are called by Jesus Christ himself to NOT live in fear.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

To list a few. May we the church be led by the courage His spirit has given us. May God bless us all!
