After we finished filming Apostolic Fathers last week we wanted to attend Sunday Mass at the Church of San Clemente to venerate the bones of Ignatius of Antioch and Clement of Rome in a special "concluding" Mass. But we were invited to Pope Benedict's Sunday Mass instead — where in ordained 22 new priests.

So this Sunday we are back in Rome with Catholic Answers. We arrived too late for morning Masses so decided to try San Clemente. It is located 300 yards from the Colosseum where Ignatius was martyred.

Blessed be God forever, they had a 6:30 PM Sunday Mass. So there we were sitting and kneeling in front of the bones of the two heroic Apostolic Fathers who both knew and were taught by the Apostles Peter, Paul and John. The Apostolic Fathers had a tremendous influence on our conversions so to celebrate Mass there was wonderful.

What an emotional treat for Janet and I. We were even able to spend time with the delightful and marvelous Irish Dominican in charge — who has become our friend — Fr. John Cunningham. Though disappointed at missing the Mass last week we were doubly blessed this time around. God is always good with giving good gifts and sometimes he puts frosting on the cake as well.
