Movies, TV & Media

Janet and I have always loved good movies that are of high quality with good acting. But it must also be entertaining, redemptive, inspiring and challenging us to the good, the beautiful, the human.

As St. Paul says, “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, [watch and] think about these things. (Philippians 4:8)

Most families are being forced to spend time together during this pandemic of the Chinese virus. What a wonderful time to read together and watch great movies. Enjoy and be edified (and entertained)!

You can see our list here with all movies linked to sources and resources: https://catholicconvert.com/resources/recommended/movies-videos-dvds/ If you have favorites not listed here, let me at sray@me.com.

Screen Shot 2019-12-22 at 4.07.16 PMMy son wrote last night and said, “Dad, we are are all watching a movie we think you and mom would love. It has a lot of swearing in it but the movie is great. The kids are enjoying it too.”

So we decided to watch it this afternoon and never laughed so hard in a long time. It was very human, Catholic in the redemptive sense, and delightful from beginning to end though a bit crude in places. It is entitled “The Peanut Butter Falcon.”

downloadIMDb writes, “The Peanut Butter Falcon is an adventure story set in the world of a modern Mark Twain that begins when Zak (22), a young man with Down syndrome, runs away from the nursing home where he lives to chase his dream of becoming a professional wrestler by attending the wrestling school The Salt Water Redneck. Through circumstances beyond their control Tyler (32), a small-time outlaw on the run, becomes Zak’s unlikely coach and ally. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whiskey, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor (28), a kind nursing home employee with a story of her own, to join them on their journey.”

Sit down with the ones you love, get the popcorn and prepare to enjoy yourselves in a redemptive, romping bunch of fun and laughs.
