Whatever happened to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"? As a senator he was able to get a vaccine earlier than many others, even some with medical issues. Since he may still be able to spread the disease if he is infected, it would be the barest courtesy to take a very minor precaution to prevent the chance of spreading it to the press corps.

STEVE RAY HERE: Couldn’t disagree with you more, but your comment is noted. By the way, he is of the age where he is qualified to get the vaccine. I’ve been getting emails for four weeks inviting me to come and get the vaccine. And the whole insanity with masks has to stop.

I don’t have a problem with waring a mask if you have not been vaccinated and are close to other people you are not comfortable with. Once you have been vaccinated, I see no point in mask waring if indeed the vaccine is legitimate.

Tom, the problem is we know from experience that vaccinated people can be immune to a disease yet still spread it to those who are not immune. This is true for mumps, which is part of the MMR vaccine, and at least one of the vaccines for meningitis. We don't know if some or all of the various COVID-19 vaccines prevent spreading, and so at least for now discretion is the better part of valor.

STEVE RAY HERE: thanks for sharing and your sincere beliefs, it is speculation. How long do we keep the world shut down, mask everyone from now on … keeping the insanity going until everyone is 100% safe with no chance of every getting sick? Maybe stop all cars from driving which would save a whole lot of lives. Give Biden more authority to keep us all safe from each other. Sorry, but most of us are so over this speculation, skewed numbers and authoritarian governors.

Mike, I have got to push back on your comment. “we know from experience that vaccinated people can be immune to a disease yet still spread it to those who are not immune” may be true for some cases that you site. We know nothing of this for this covid virus.

Tom, my comment was in response to yours that said "I see no point in mask waring if indeed the vaccine is legitimate," as though a successful vaccine would be guaranteed to eliminate spreading from vaccinated carriers. We agree that it's too early to tell if some or all will do that. When we encounter a situation that could reasonably be dangerous, it's best to err on the side of caution. You don't let your small child pet a stray animal because there's no evidence at the time that it's harmful.

STEVE RAY HERE: The problem of course is who gets to make the rules, who draws the lines, who has the authority to tell us how long into extent we have to keep “being careful to the extreme” even for things that are not known. There are a lot of things not known and we don’t make rules to control everybody for all of those. So where does freedom and caution become dictatorship? Shall we wear our masks and keep the world shut down forever? Schools and churro closed until when? Til we are 101% sure no one ever gets sick?
