Pope Francis should be terrified of schism! Certainly St. Paul was, he preached constantly on the necessity of unity in the Church. His constant dismissal of the “American” Church is unbefitting the role of Pope….it is more consistent with an attitude of provincial arrogance and prejudice, than it is with humility and care for the global Church. so is his consistent refusal to clarify any of his numerous pronouncements, when asked to do so.
From Sola … To Sola … :))
STEVE RAY HERE: No sola anymore. I want said Sola Scripture alone. Now I have scripture, TRADITION and the magisterium. In times of distress in the church we can always appreciate scripture and TRADITION and the magisterium’s teaching for 2000 years.
I would recommend Mike Aquilina’s book Good Pope, Bad Pope. We have had some pretty rotten Popes before, but the Church survived thanks to God. Ultimately the head of the Church is Jesus Christ, the Pope, whether he is good or bad, is his Vicar, tasked with carrying out His will and safeguarding the Deposit of Faith, as it was handed to him by all his predecessors back to St Peter. He cannot change scripture or tradition, only clarify and help us grow in understanding.
