Obama Wins; America Loses; I’m Disgusted

by Steve Ray on November 6, 2012

I am disgusted with the United States. Our country is horribly divided. There will be no recovery from another Obama term. It’s hard not to think this could be Divine judgment on this land. Do we get what we as a nation deserve?

With half of America blind, foolish and selfish enough to give this deceitful socialist another four years I think we are beyond the turning point. My grandchildren will have to be courageous to live with only the memory of freedom as godless tyranny and poverty ravage our good land. Don’t doubt that China, Russia and Iran rejoiced this morning as God-loving people and free countries groaned.

I am betting the Catholic vote went for Obama again as well. For us the real tragedy is the polarization within our Church. How in the world can so many of our brothers and sisters in the Church ignore their bishops and vote for candidates that hold positions completely contrary to Catholic moral teaching.

Chris November 7, 2012 at 2:08 AM

Hey, don’t give up! Last time I checked, when a political power tried asserting itself over the Church, it was either completely converted or left in ruins. Pagan Rome used to exist, now the Vatican triumphantly sits over its corpse. Nazi Germany tried actively martyring the Church, and now we have an amazing German Pontiff who has led the Church well, while the Nazi government collapsed. At every event, the Church triumphs because Jesus has triumphed. Though I’m not in America, I am praying for my brothers and sisters there.

Don’t give up! Though these temporal nations do exist, at the end of the day God shall judge those responsible for their errors, and God will show his mercy towards those who repent. We can still win this battle.

“For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.” (Malachi 4:1-2).

Keep up your great work, Steve. I’ve benefited greatly from it, and I’m praying for you and your family. :)

It is indeed a very sad day, my brothers and sisters who called themselves catholics couldn’t stand up for their faith, they chose wrong president ,,,hurricane sandy was not powerful enough just to make a wake up call for american catholics to open their mind and heart for what is happening around them. GOD PLEASE HAVE MERCY ON US.

Let us pray for President Obama that he may have a conversion of heart and he may be enlightened esp. in leading the American nation.

pablo November 7, 2012 at 6:37 AM

Thank you Chris for your encouraging words not only to Steve but to all American believers. We will get over the disappointment quickly and move as the Holy Spirit guides.

Melanie November 7, 2012 at 6:38 AM

I guess we at least know what we are fighting for. We are placed in this day and time for a reason, so it is truly time to put on the armor of God and forge ahead!

Daniel November 7, 2012 at 6:44 AM

All goes as per Gods plan and American’s must have done accordingly knowingly or not.Truly Jesus is Victorious and Triumphant so as His promised and assured Church. Day of flourishing of Catholic faith is on greater move….as prayers can do greater miracles.
Bro. Chis, well said, hoping to become true soon.

Kathy November 7, 2012 at 9:42 AM

I’m afraid this had to happen to save souls. America’s been fat and happy for too long and the people have forgotten about God. Now we’re being brought to our knees, and as much as I hate it, especially when I look into the eyes of my young children, I know it will ultimately be a good thing.

Jesus, I trust in you!

Frederika November 7, 2012 at 10:27 AM

I too feel terribly sad but Chris is right and I thank you Chris for your words not just to Americans but to others who once looked upto the U.S of A for the correct things and now shun away from the nation.
God look after America!

Kathie November 7, 2012 at 10:55 AM

Well said Steve. I am completely baffled as to what the attraction to Obama could be for anyone calling themselves a catholic. How is the approval of abortion not a no-brainier. One pundit said that Obama heavily wooed the female vote by campaigning on abortion (he mentioned Pennsylvania specifically). His words were that it seemed to ” bear fruit” for Obama. Shame on those women!

Mick November 7, 2012 at 11:19 AM

God bless the United States and the people of our great country. God bless Mitt Romney and all he has done for our country as an Olympics chair, as Governor of Massachusetts, and as a believer in God for his compassion and outreach for those who are in need. I will continue to follow Mitt’s leadership when last night he said that he and Ann will pray for President Obama: I will do the same.

I’ve thought for four years now, that we had passed the tipping point but hoped I was wrong. Well, this election shows me I was right. America has passed her prime and has moved into her decline.

But we should take heart and be optimistic. Our salvation lies not with any nation or government.

The Church was here for 1,700 years before the U.S. existed, and she will be around long after the U.S. as we know it is gone. We know that ultimately, she can never be destroyed because of Christ’s promise to Peter in Matt. 16. She outlasted the Roman Empire, which for centuries sought to destroy her, only to grow stronger from the effort. And she will survive, though probably in a much smaller condition, the trials which will shortly be upon her.

Nothing happens that is not in accordance with God’s will.

I am personally beginning to think that He will use the current and imminent situation to chastise, revitalize, and reinvigorate His Church. What good gardener does not prune the trees, shrubs and vines of his garden so that they can grow back larger, stronger, and healthier? And the western Church is most assuredly not healthy right now – and has not been since the mid 1960s. She is an overgrown and sickly shrub that needs pruning. In a nation where 80% of the population professes to be Christian, we have become a nation of heretics. Many if not most Christians do not vote, and more importantly do not live, their faith. No doubt Obama won the Catholic vote. Many do not even believe their faith is true in any kind of absolute sense. “It’s true for me, but not necessarily true for you.”

As a result of Americans’ softness and learned dependence on government, as demonstrated by these election results, there are some alive today who will see in America what has been going on in Greece and elsewhere in Europe. As a result of their practical and doctrinal apostasy, because they will not stand up for their faith and live and vote it, Christians, and Catholics in particular, will see more and more demands placed upon them by their governments that will require them to act in ways contrary to their faith. It has already begun in Europe, Canada, and even here. As John warned the first century Christians in the Apocalypse, so it will be with our generation. Things will get much worse before they get better. A number of bishops have already made public statements to the effect that they will go to jail before they comply with the HHS mandate. Will we be willing to follow? Cardinals George and Chaput, leaders in the Church, have both stated that they expect their successors to die in prison and their successors’ successors to die martyrs. Will we be willing to follow?

Every Christian needs to reacquaint him or herself with the Book of Revelation and its message. We are on the cusp, perhaps even in our lifetimes, of another great persecution of the Church, brought about in part by these election results, as they will no doubt embolden the Church’s enemies. God will use that persecution to prune the Church back and make her healthier for the long haul. This pruning will not be pleasant, but remember that God chastises those whom he loves – sometimes quite severely. It is only those who have rejected Him that He leaves to their own devices. And we may take comfort in knowing that the sufferings we endure may be united to those of Christ and help to bring about the ultimate salvation of the world. Just as the first century Christians were forced to by pagan Rome, we will be forced to make a choice: worship the beast, or worship the Lamb. We cannot worship both. Will we choose to be citizens of the kingdoms of men or the Kingdom of God? We will not be able to hold dual citizenship. Ultimately we know who will win in the end. If we remain true to Him, He will remain true to us. Christ never promised us an easy time of it. In fact, He promised the exact opposite. The world will hate us because it hated Him. But, as I said, if we chose rightly and remain faithful, our eternity will be assured. And the Church will come out on the other side no doubt much smaller, but also much stronger and healthier. The knowledge of man puffs up, but the love of God builds up. Sometimes, unfortunately, love hurts.

Read correctly, the Book of Revelation is a message of reassurance and comfort to the people of God in all ages suffering persecution. Things will be tough, but the shedding of blood on God’s behalf is necessary for our benefit and the benefit of His Church. And ultimately, we know who wins.

And so we can say with confidence, “Come Lord Jesus, come.”

Viewed in that context, these election results matter precious little. In fact, they are even necessary to being about the rebuilding of His Kingdom.

Mick November 7, 2012 at 1:14 PM

“Be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world,” is what I’m holding on to. It’s a hard day Steve, but you’re not in it alone. Chris has left such an uplifting post, above. What hurts is our own “Catholic Vote,” was almost nonexistent. There were few troops to rally. We need to heal, strengthen ourselves and move ahead. As for me, I plan to sit before the Blessed Sacrament and hold out my broken heart to HIM.

I left you in Athens and returned to the US as you and many in our pilgrimage went on to Rome. I share your feelings about our country and its downward spiral but have not given up hope. Personally, I blame the Bishops and Priests for not speaking about the issues from the pulpit. With 25% of the total electorate being Catholic, how is it that half of them can find it acceptable to vote for a man who champions abortion and tramples religious freedom? During our pilgrimage, you lauded the unanimous decision of the Bishops to resist, through civil disobedience, the HHS mandate. I wonder how this will play out if they are expecting the laity to barricade the entrance to our Catholic hospitals when they haven’t even been talking about the problem at Sunday mass. I know that not all priests are silent on these matters. If all the priests throughout the country were as passionate as the 10 on the pilgrimage, we would not have had Obama for one term, let alone a second. Checking the USCCB website today, I found a letter of congratulations from Cardinal Dolan to Obama and a piece about making better use of social media. Is this what we can expect next from the clergy? Twitter homilies? What happened to the evangelization of St. Paul as you and Scott so eloquently displayed and urged us to take up? Why are we not hearing the message from the pulpit? Why are the readings treated like history, unrelated to the present?

I am grateful for the work you and Janet, Scott and Kimberly and so many others are doing to spread the Word. I wish your passion was evident in our parishes. My apologies to the many priests who are speaking directly to the people for this rant.

God bless you.

Amen, Chris!

I reckon we have 2 choices: keep fighting the good fight or quit. I’ve got no use for quitters. I’ve read that God doesn’t, either (“He who perseveres to the end will be saved”).

Jacky November 7, 2012 at 8:24 PM

This is a post I put on my blog:

I was not surprised. I was expecting it, really.

Naturally, as hope is a virtue, I had hoped that Romney, who would (probably, maybe, maybe not) destroy the country less fast than Obama, would win, but I knew deep down that he probably wouldn’t.

In the weeks leading up to the election, I prayed to God, I spoke to Him at the Tabernacle in the Adoration Chapel at my church. I prayed that Romney would win, that perhaps we could have some more time before things go nuts and maybe turn things around. But, I knew and explained to Jesus (when I say I talk to Him, I mean I actually have a conversation with Christ in the Tabernacle, like He’s sitting in a chair in front of me) that I understood that perhaps Obama should win, because perhaps that is the punishment that this nation deserves. That’s not to say that I wanted him to win. It’s just that I understood if God allowed him to win. Romney–or should I say, Obama not winning so it could be anyone such as Bozo, ET or Old Yeller–would mean that (in my theory that I explained to Christ) the hand of God was preventing total calamity, for a little longer (I guess, because we really don’t know what Romney would have messed up, but we do know what the Obamination would and will do). But if Obama won, it would be America’s just desserts. For decades it has been mounting up to this. The sex, the drugs, the rock and roll. Is it really a surprise that America chose the candidate that would give all of that to it until it overdosed and died? The candidate that is a warped kind of Candy Man and Doctor Feelgood?

In a way, this sort of reminds me of the ending fight on Ghostbusters. Zool (Zul?) tells the Busters to choose their destruction. And they picked the Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man (But it was an accident, because it kind of popped in there). America has picked Obama, the vehicle of its own destruction. But this was deliberate. He did not just ‘pop in there’. He laid out the cards, offered the candy and the drugs and all the other things that would kill us and America that has become a land of unadulterated evil. No, we’re not casting spells or conjuring demons and what not. We’re killing babies, sodomizing and preventing the existence of other human beings in the act that creates human beings simply to keep things convenient for us. America is not the home of the free and the land of the brave, it is the home of the enslaved and the land of the unbelievably self centered.

Of course there are exceptions to this. Good people, wishing only to please God. Despite the darkness of the future and what may happen to the nation, especially Catholics like us in these dark times, I’m at peace. I’m not angry. I’m not afraid. I pray that all of us who do the right thing feels this way too. If you do what you are supposed to do, hold fast to the faith you’ll be alright, maybe not in this life for a few decades–things could get very rough–but certainly in the next for eternity. That’s a pretty comforting thought at the end of the day. The only thing that the pain and suffering we may face will do for us is provide us a way to come closer to God, to seek Him, to make Him everything because He is all we have.

Tony November 8, 2012 at 10:20 AM

Had to wait a day and hold my thoughts to try to get a grip on what just happened. It doesn’t seem to have done much good. Shock and awh is the best I can describe my feelings. I am in shock that this Man and the political party which he leads with the record of the failure of the last 4 years has been swept back into office. It was blatantly apparent that neither his and his party’s record of failure or his obviously being unqualified for such a position of the Presidency or the qualifications and successes and abilities of Romney mattered little to the electorate. All that mattered was the personality! What has happened to cause the dumbing down of the electorate in this country? Public Education? No one seems to be interested in the facts of our countries current dire situation, not interested that we are fast going to hell in a hand basket! All that matters is “ME” the hell with the rest of the country! The “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” democrats are non existent in todays government. What is the country going to do for me is the question of the day, what am I going to get free, what kind of free stuff is on the shelf today for my self indulgence? Ah…. how bout a little free contraception, or a free abortion, free medicine, free health care, free phone anyone? The candy man has been re-elected….. now he can really give us much more free stuff! The pied piper is playing our song, can’t ya here the music, we must follow him on the path to our destruction! My brother tells me of the meat market where he works in Ohio where people buy their meats and groceries with lots of glitter and glitz of expensive jewlery on their bodies, and then pay for the purchase with an Ohio food stamp card…….. and loads their groceries for them in their cadillac escalade! Welfare was meant for helping the poor, a noble endeavour…….to give a hand up not a hand out…. it was not put out there for the system to be scammed! And I thought that I lived in the “ME” generation back in the 60’s and 70’s! A sense of personnel responsibility and integrity and self sacrifice in this current electorate is almost non existent especially among the young…… and that is frightening! Not to worry, the god of government will take care of us all! I picture Jaba the Hut in all his benevolence!
I keep coming back to the words “A tree is known by its fruit” they weigh heavy with my soul! All we need do is to look at the fruit, actions and words, of ones tree to determine the the character and integrity of that person. Steve mentioned that the governments of China, Russia, and Iran rejoiced while God-loving people and democracies groaned! True, but all the powers of Hell , Satan and his minions were also rejoicing! Having a President that stands against God is truly an asset! Look at the fruit of the tree…. standing four square for abortions, the killing of those in the womb who are created in Gods image and likeness, because we only want the pleasures of sex and none of the responsibility, for homosexual so called marriage, an abomination in the eyes of God….. Rom 1: 24-32….. which is fast becoming hate speech and an imprisonable offense, for EMBRYONIC stem cell research, for human cloning, euthanasia….. not to mention a backing away of our support for the nation of Israel! These are all part of the feel good leftist agenda. For those Catholic Christians and Christians in general who participated in this re-election you are supportive of and complicit with the evils of this administration. You say you are Christian, a follower of Christ, but your actions, the fruit of your tree, speaks volumes against you! Are you truly a follower of Christ? A TREE IS KNOWN BY ITS FRUIT!

Tom Govern November 8, 2012 at 10:44 PM

I am one of the “Angry one white males”. My biggest disappointment is that our Church would not name names. All the crap about the HSS mandates and religious freedom is waisted unless someone associates the problem with the people supporting it! 40% of the people in the pews do not understand the who the bad guys are. They should at least said have said that the Democratic Party supports, abortion on demand, same sex marriage and the other non-negotiables. They did not.

Sad, now we are stuck. If Catholics vote their beliefs, we have a new president.

gaetano November 9, 2012 at 9:37 AM

I was born a sinner like everyone else in this world and right now I will ask forgiveness of the sin that I am about to make. If you tell me that you are a christian and that you voted for Obama ,I will spit in your face. Those of you that voted for this non-christian is a deserter to God. You are a religious hypocrite and I despise you. OH yes, I have a hate in my heart for you , and it is bigger then a person can imagine. I repent everyday of my life, but at this moment ,I ask God to make you suffer for your dishonor towads him and his son. You are a sick person to believe in the killing of Babies. You are a sick person to belive in the bond of matrimony between the sames sexes. You live within the lives of christians but have the devil in your heart. I will fight you with all the strength in my soul against you to defend my God.

Andrew November 9, 2012 at 10:31 AM

you people really are insane aren’t you!

As an Australian Catholic I have to say the Catholic Church in America seems like a nasty little cult.

eveythign obama has done happened here ALONG time ago….
now Im not a fan of abortion but if your going to have a health care plan it has to be included sadly. I don’t agree with it but you are not going to stop Abortion, all you would do by not including it is have it go underground.

secondly as a gay guy I have high hopes that America will finaily beat down this homophobic nonsence and grow up…The bible prohibitions were written in an entirely different culture ranging from 3500 yrs ago to 2000 years ago approx. Your not going to stop civil rights (yes even if you don’t think it’s a civil rights issue..,many racists said similar things about slavery)

I think you guys need to have a good long hard look at yourselves if you really want to know where the problem lies.

You are a good example of why the Catholic Church is in such trouble in Australia. Too many people like you who reject objective truth, espouse relative morals, display an abysmal ignorance of history and Scripture, revel in a lax attitude toward sin – no, a dismissal of sin which allows one’s own unformed conscience to condone any choices or actions. The above comment is what I’d expect from a practicing gay, abortion tolerant, truth relativising, so-called Catholic.

I am not including all Catholics in this description since I’ve done a speaking tour of Australia and found many fine, orthodox Catholics who’ve resisted the relativistic culture. They are the hope for the Church down under.

david November 11, 2012 at 2:31 AM

Well, all I can say is that I think Obama’s agenda is more in line with Christianity than the Republicans’ agenda. Thank God for the people of America deciding it’s best to help the poor and those less fortunate (Christian, no?), and thank God for the nation voting in favor of everyone having health care, not just those who are already healthy or those that have enough money to buy insurance. Christ wanted it this way, I believe.

Bill912 November 11, 2012 at 8:37 AM

david, you are lying. And you’re not good at it.

John W November 12, 2012 at 1:16 AM

Obama’s agenda is anti-Christian and anti-religious liberty and does little to truly help the poor and less fortunate. If that were so, they would be doing better, not worse.
If liberals cared so much about the poor and less fortunate, they would actually do with their hands, feet and wallets what conservatives do. Obviously people like Biden and John Kerry, etc. can’t find their wallets when it comes to charity. They treat their own church (they claim to be Catholic) as a publicly funded institution as their tax returns show they give next to nothing.
The eight darkest blue states give the least amount of money and the least amount of their time for charitible purposes. It’s not a statistical abberation. Every study there has ever been shows that conservatives are way more charitible. Liberals use lipservice and feel good about their vote to take other peoples money to help the less fortunate.
No thank you. I know the organizations that I wan’t to give to. And the recipients will see a real face and know that it is because of Jesus that we give our time and treasure. When the government hands out assistance, nearly none of the recipients are thankful to the “filthy rich” who pay the majority of the taxes to fund government assistance.

In the VP debate Biden made it clear how hypocritical he is. He says he agrees with the Catholic Church’s teaching on both abortion and social justice issues. He said on the other side of his mouth that he won’t force his views on life issues upon anyone. Yet he has no qualms in forcing his own version of ‘Catholic’ social justice issues upon others. The sad thing is that he doesn’t see the hypocrisy.
In other words, his religion is his politics. This is the same for Obama.
