In Idylic Amish Country

by Steve Ray on February 13, 2010

Snowstorm-in-US-An-Amish--012Montgomery Indiana is a world away from Bombay with 20 million people in a country of 1.2 billion — 3 million of whom are Catholics! That is as many people that live in the USA! It is also a world away from Muslim Dubai which is like the Wild West on steroids.

Here I am in the middle of Amish country to speak at a beautiful, small country church called St. Peters. These are genuine down-to-earth folks who are the backbone of America. I will speak tonight on my Conversion to the Catholic Church and tomorrow on St. Paul.

See the pictures and map of  my run through the countryside and the church where I will speak. Check out my run on EveryTrail here (

Hi Steve,
I know there are a bunch of CSS students there to hear you – wish I could be there too. I’ve never been in that part of Indiana but it sure looks nice. Enjoy your visit with the Hoosiers!

Steve you were great tonight. When you were done I wanted to yell out “Steve I love you”. But I’m the very
quiet type. Those who know me would have died. Wouldn’t want that on my conscience. Truly your talk
was excellent. If only ALL Catholics were like you this world wouldn’t be the shape its in. Keep up your good work. God bless you and keep you safe and healthy. I would love to send tonights talk to my brother.
Years ago he was talked into leaving the church and talked his five married children in to leaving also. One of those protestants trying to save him. Now he and his whole family are on the raft instead of the ship.

Steve God Bless you for all you do. Your talks were truly an inspiration to everyone. All fired up for Lent now.

Steve, When you spoke of your conversion I felt you were telling my story. I finally was able to tell my dad that I converted 15 years after the fact so I know the alienation you and your wife felt from your families. You (and the Holy Spirit) have fired me up for Lent. I hope that you are home safe and sound from firing up all those you spoke with at St. Peter’s. Thanks for all you do for Our Lord!!!!
