With pro-life amendment’s defeat, US bishops urgently call for changes in Senate health bill

For full article:

By a 54-45 vote, the United States Senate has rejected the Nelson-Hatch-Casey Amendment to health care legislation. The amendment would have kept in place “the longstanding and widely supported federal policy against government funding of health coverage that includes elective abortions,” as the US Conference of Catholic Bishops stated before the vote.

The Bishops in the USCCB had better start publicly denying pro-abortion Catholic senators communion – in fac, ANY pro-abortion Catholic politician. This is the only way. The battle can’t be won by being nice to these apostates. They have to be treated for what they are. Look at the example St. Paul set before us:

“Some, by rejecting conscience, have made a shipwreck of their faith, among them Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.” 1 Timothy 1:19-20.

The bishops got the old green weenie from their buddies in congress. When you lie down with dogs you get fleas. One hopes that, at some point in this process, the bishops will realize that Democrat pols are not their friends but are only using them. Looking at the body of bishops, collectively, you see a pretty good example of naive lost boys in tall weeds.

I know a bishop that insists if we rock the boat and push our pro-life beliefs too strongly, we will not be invited to the table to converse with the pro-aborts. This gives me a headache.

In all the maze of comments I heard somewhere that the Hyde Amendment is in full effect still and therefore abortions cannot be paid for with taxpayer money (except in the cases of “rape, incest and to save the life of the mother”). Could this be true? It is supposed to be the law. I am writing this on Dec. 22 when as we all know things have been taken to a different 60-vote level.
