Forty Days for Healthcare . . .

by Steve Ray on August 19, 2009

. . . sound familiar?

Yeah, we have Forty Days for Life

Now Obama has a knock-off —  40 Days for Healthcare

This will certainly force us to pay for abortion with our tax dollars!

Geez! And it’s sponsored by religious organizations including some stupid “Catholics.”

Comment by David Bereit, executive director of 40 Days for Life:

“Some say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but using the biblical 40-days concept in an attempt to salvage floundering health care reform proposals that would mandate taxpayer funding of abortion and force Americans into health plans with mandatory abortion coverage – we are anything but flattered.
“I am confident that the prayers of millions of people, imploring God to inspire people to turn away from abortion, will be a much more powerful force in shaping the future.”

Confused Catholic Organizations

Sisters of Mercy among sponsors of Obama talk-radio call on healthcare reform
“In an effort to increase support for congressional healthcare legislation amid growing public skepticism, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and three other Catholic groups have joined over 30 religious organizations in sponsoring an August 19 BlogTalkRadio appearance by President Barack Obama. The show begins at 5:00.”

These Sisters are NOT to be confused with the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa’s sisters). Groups like this — I suspect — are the reason the Pope is investigating many of the women religious in America. I do not know for sure, but I have a hunch — and stand ready to be corrected.

This was posted on The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas website after Obama was elected:

“The campaigning is over and we have cast our votes [presumably for Obama].  Now it is time to turn our efforts to keeping our elected officials informed about poverty, immigration, Earth, women’s equality, racism, and nonviolence – the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy.”

Why not a concern for abortion, sanctity of marriage, opposition to the gay agenda or other matters central to the Culture of Life. “Earth” is more important than the unborn? I have not had much time to investigate them, but reading portions of their website and seeing their enthusiastic support for Obama and his liberal agenda sent  my antennas up!

Newt Gingrich from Baptist to Catholic

Time examines Newt Gingrich’s conversion
The conversion of Newt Gingrich, who was received into the Church on March 29, is the subject of an article in the August 24 edition of Time. Gingrich, who was baptized by Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington at a ceremony attended by Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, attributes his conversion to the grandeur of Catholic worship, the influence of his wife, and the Church’s intellectual tradition. “When you have 2,000 years of intellectual depth surrounding you,” he said, “it’s comforting.”
