Pro-aborts and the Eucharist

Top Vatican official confirms: no Communion for abortion proponents
Cardinal Antonio Canizares Llovera, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, has reiterated that politicians who support legal abortion should be barred from receiving Communion. Because these individuals are engaged in gravely sinful behavior, the Spanish prelate told LifeSite News, it would be an act of charity for a priest to withhold Communion, preventing them from blasphemous reception of the Eucharist.

I’m glad he made this point! When I was a Protestant and was told I could not receive Communion in a Catholic church, it sounded like patent snobbery, because the explanation given was always human-related (the “sign of unity” argument). It would be better to say that no one should approach the altar without a careful examination of conscience and a good sacramental Confession to a priest — otherwise it is dangerous.

Well this is good news indeed, though we already knew it! We’ll see how our “Catholic” politicians respond to it. Hopefully they’ll take heed. One wonders though if they’ll do like they did with the Bishops and send a nice letter of protest with all of their signatures on it.
