Priestly Vocation Reader

by Steve Ray on July 29, 2007

Excellent articles are contained in this on-line version of the "Priestly Vocations Reader." It spells out the problems in many dioceses, why some areas are booming with vocations and others have none. It also rebutts many of the wacky ideas others are proposing.

These are excellent articles — 50 pages worth — which will be enjoyed by anyone who wants to understand Catholic vocations better. Click here for the PDF articles.

Bible Alone? Not for the Fathers!

by Steve Ray on July 27, 2007

I just came across this quotation again. What a great reminder of the authority of the Church and the Apostolic Tradition! How did I fall for sola Scriptura back in my old life?

Basil.jpgThe Church preserves many beliefs and practices that generally are accepted or publicly commanded. Some are taken from written teaching; others have been passed on to us “in a mystery” by the tradition of the apostles. In relation to true religion, both of these have the same force.

—St. Basil the Great (c. 330-c. 379)
Father of Eastern Monasticism

Newbies & Newts

July 24, 2007

Grandkids are cool — little "newbie people" so interested in everything. OK, so we have an old golfcart and I drive the grandkids around exploring. Every two-track back into a field or woods is a "new territory" that needs to be conquered. Every rock has to be turned over, every bug caught and every tree identified. New […]

What reasons do you have to prove he was not just […]
