by Steve Ray on February 12, 2017

Today everyone arrived on Air France safely and excitedly in Amman Jordan. We took them to our hotel for a great dinner and Mass and then to bed for a big day tomorrow.

Here you can see all your loved ones arriving and see some good views of the beginning of the pilgrimage and our hotel. Lots more tomorrow!

Finding Elijah’s Brook Cherith in Gilead Jordan

by Steve Ray on February 12, 2017

IMG_6600Today we embarked on an adventure to find the place where Elijah was fed by ravens at Brook Cherith. You can read 1 King’s 17:1-7 for the story.

In Arabic the river is named Wadi el-Yubis. It is up north in Jordan in the Gilead mountains not far from Elijah’s hometown of Tishbe (which we also found).

The Wadi Cherith is way out of the way and we had a good challenge to find it. Even our lifetime Christian Jordanian guide did not know where this was.

I hope you’ll enjoy seeing what we did today in preparation for our next Footprints of God movie on Elijah-Elisha. It will be shot in June in Jordan, Israel and Egypt  we will have it finished by the end of this year  pray for us!

“Ecumenical” Bible Studies

by Steve Ray on February 12, 2017

EcumenicalBibleStudyWithout a teaching authority or the tradition of the historic Church, this cartoon shows what many Bible studies are really like.

I remember Bible Studies that started out with “What does this passage mean to you?”  To keep from arguing or fighting, many just avoid difficult passages.

There are many studies that exclude Catholic ideas and comments and the reason Catholics are invited is with the hope of converting them.

What matters is this – what did author intend in the context of his own time and how has the Church understood it for 2,000 years!
